Ms. Spektor and World Literature

This past Friday night I ventured to Detroit, Michigan with one Stephen Duraney to see Regina Spektor perform at St. Andrews. The trip there was full of beautiful church sightings everywhere (especially near Toledo) and that provided for some entertainment. Once we arrived in the infamous city, we parked (and by parked I mean got ripped off by a native Detroit-ian) and took photos of the place. It was beautiful. Originally, Jackie was going to come as well, but she had things to tend to. She missed out. Anyway, this post is dedicated to Jackie due to the lack of her presence. (But, might I note, dear Jackie ran the Columbus half-marathon on Sunday! Congratulations Jackie!)

The tech guy gave me the set list afterward. I just want to tell you about Regina, because it was so interesting. She sings these expressive and poetic lyrics that are entirely suggestive that she has a very extroverted personality. I was expecting, I think, someone so different than how she conducted herself. While playing music and singing, performing her craft, she was loud and creative. Once each song was over, almost as if she forgot the audience was there, she was incredibly shy and giggly. Her smile was genuine like she couldn't believe the audience loved her art and it was astounding.

It was just so interesting is all. I never would have guessed.

Please look in the Other paper this Thursday for an article on Bubba-choo and homeless people in general. I don't know if it features the Neil Ave. camp or what, but I saw him for the last time this past Saturday and he told me he would be in it. I think I'm going to look for it on other days this week it case it runs earlier than he thought. He is precious and when I get it I'm going to laminate it like I am a mom and my kid made some cool construction paper creation for the first time. The Neil Ave stop is no longer inhabiting that land legally, as of today. Their homes will be replaced by a parking garage.

Today I had an appointment with my advisor to discuss scheduling and various other class issues. It is always a joy to visit him because I leave feeling so much better about education in general. He is perfect for his job. Upon checking in, I needed to wait in line. Because of the wait, I took a look at some nearby brochures and papers. A crumpled orange sheet caught my eye, it announced the new major "World Literature" and gave some details. I was immediately intrigued and adopted the sheet as my own. After addressing some originally planned topics of conversation with said amazing advisor, I pulled out the sheet and inquired as to what exactly it was. He explained it a little more and there was short discussion, promptly followed by me changing my major to this mysteriously new area of study. My advisor says that the feeling I got when I saw the sheet and changed my major five-minutes later is "how majors are born." We'll see? I'm only rank 2, this is not a total atmospheric shift. It was exciting though.

That's really all.
